A Concerned Canadian

Dear Mr. Harper,

Global warming is no joke. We must all do our part and work together to stop, and hopefully reverse climate change. This must start with the federal government. The government needs to make changes such as eliminating traffic lights and replacing them with stop signs to reduce thousands of cars that idle at red lights and build more nuclear reactors so we can shut down oil and coal-powered electric facilities.

Arctic animals, such as  the polar bear are dying because the ice is melting away. This ice is home to animals such as polar bears who use the ice to survive by hunting seals, fish, etc. that live under the water. Arctic temperatures are rising at almost twice the rate of the rest of the world.

Many other countries have worked to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Canada's greenhouse emissions actually increased between 1990 and 2005.

As individuals, we can leave our cars at home and walk or ride a bike. We can carpool when it is a longer distance. We should buy local home-grown and home-made products, turn off lights that aren't in use and turn off all electronics and play board-games with our families.

Canada needs a climate change strategy to track the rate and nature of changes that will affect Canada and the rest of the world in the near future.

Thank you for taking the time to hear me out. Let's come together as a nation and overcome these problems. Please act now!
